“A man must sin. It’s in our blood.” So says Flora’s fiancé, Manuelo, in Boleros for the Disenchanted. But she will have none of it. Nor is she interested in her mother’s idea that a witch’s spell can make him faithful, or her father’s proposal to have Manuelo killed. Instead, handsome Eusebio sweeps her off her feet, and takes her from Puerto Rico to America on a journey of sacrifice and enduring love.
Yale Repertory Theatre presents the world premiere of Boleros for the Disenchanted by José Rivera, the OBIE Award-winning author of the plays Cloud Tectonics, Marisol, and References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, among many others, and the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of The Motorcycle Diaries.
